An Emotional Odyssey

An Emotional OdysseyOrchestra nova LA presents a concert with a broad emotional impact featuring works by three brilliant female composers and concluding with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique).

PROGRAM: The emotional arc of tonight’s concert begins with pieces by three brilliant female composers showcasing the violence and betrayal in Ethel Smyth’s Overture to “The Wreckers,” the soul-searching and hope for redemption in Emilie Mayer’s Faust Overture, and the buoyancy and vibrance of Adrienne Albert’s Western Suite. We conclude with the Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony (Pathétique), a deeply conflicted journey from melancholy to triumph until it’s lingering, mournful ending that leaves us feeling as unmoored and conflicted as Tchaikovsky himself appears to have been while writing it. Enjoy the powerful music of this evening’s concert.
