Of Dreams, Dance and Spirit

Of Dreams, Dance and SpiritGenevieve Feiwen Lee, piano
Music by Juhi Bansal, Margaret Bonds, Gao Ping, Fanny Mendelssohn, Karen Tanaka, Zenobia Powell Perry and Joshua Uzoigwe

Grammy-nominated pianist and faculty member, Genevieve Feiwen Lee, offers an inspiring program with wide-ranging music from across the globe and in a variety of musical styles, as so often is an element of her programs. For this concert she has selected music, primarily by women composers, that have, in her words, “very evocative titles that inspire associations and images.” Within the works by Juhi Bansal, Margaret Bonds, Fanny Mendelssohn, Karen Tanaka, Zenobia Powell Perry, Gao Ping and Joshua Uzoigwe, she will also use musical techniques and stylings that go beyond the playing of the 88 keys on a piano.

Genevieve Feiwen Lee has thrilled audiences performing on various keyboards from the piano and harpsichord to the toy piano, keyboard and electronics. Since her first engagement with the York Symphony at the age of 12, she has appeared with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, Brazil, the Vratza State Philharmonic, Bulgaria, and The Orchestra of Northern New York. She has given solo piano recitals at Merkin Concert Hall, NY, and the Salle Gaveau in Paris. Her concerts in Changsha, China, were broadcast by Hunan State Television, and her performance from the Spiegelzaal at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam was broadcast on live radio (AVRO). She is a founding member of the Mojave Trio, regularly plays on the “Sundays Live” concerts at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and as a member of the Garth Newel Piano Quartet, she recently performed in Carnegie Hall.
