LOVE LETTERS

The Art Attack Foundation is proud to present, the husband and wife acting team of Perry Shields and Cindy Shields in A. R. Gurney’s LOVE LETTERS on Saturday, July 10th at 3pm on the Torino Plaza at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center.  All proceeds from this performance will go to the Foundation’s student scholarship fund.

“Love Letters" is performed as a staged reading sharing the funny, passionate, and at times, sad, tale about the overlapping lives and love of lifelong friends Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, spanning (from 1938 to the early 1980s) with their exchanged notes, cards and letters during 50 years.  The story timeline starts in second grade and details summer vacations, college life and marriages, including children, happiness and heartache.

As poignant today as ever, the lovers are forever physically apart though spiritually connected as they share with each other life’s joys and struggles, ultimately learning that happiness is found in the relationships we build over our lifetime.

Dan Watt, Executive Director of AAF states, “I was able to see LOVE LETTERS many times through the years with Carol Burnett, Rue McClanahan and Hal Linden and I’ve never tired of it.  The play is different every time each set of actors brings a dimension that is different and I can’t wait to see what Cindy and Perry bring to it.”

The Art Attack Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to participating and contributing in the education, enhancement, and development of young performing artists.  Art Attack Foundation nurtures and supports young talent through education, training, stage performances, scholarships, and other cultural activities.  Together with community partners, Art Attack Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunities, encouragement, and funding to assist young performers in realizing their full artistic potential.

Chita Rivera, Chairperson for the organizations says, “Now, more than ever, young people with talent, need our help with training, support, encouragement and above all opportunity.
That is exactly what the Art Attack Foundation provides, and why they need our help, in order to accomplish all they achieve.  That very next scholarship that is given could be the one for a future star in the arts.  I am proud and delighted to be a part of this fine organization.”
