Early Birds

Early BirdsA heartwarming, irreverent comedy about two senior women, each at a crossroads, both escaping their past on a high-seas cruise. Together, they realize their strengths and celebrate their weaknesses, and understand that it's never too late for a new friend or a new adventure.

MOVING ARTS is delighted to announce the world premiere of EARLY BIRDS, written by Dana Schwartz and directed by Elizabeth Swain. EARLY BIRDS will preview Friday, August 16 at 8pm will open on Saturday, August 17 at 4:00pm & 8:00pm and will run through Monday, September 7, 2019 at the Atwater Village Theatre, 3269 Casitas Ave. in Los Angeles, 90039.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST

DANA SCHWARTZ (Playwright) is a writer, director, actress working in her adopted home of Los Angeles for the past couple of decades. She is currently the Producer of the MADlab New Play Development Program at Moving Arts, where she is also a company member. Her plays "The PTA" and "That Time She Proposed", now a short film, were in several productions of The Car Plays, notably at REDCAT for RADAR L.A., the
Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and the La Jolla Playhouse.  Recently, her play "Condolences" was produced in the Women Who Write festival and her play "Epitaph" was published. Her newest play "@Playaz" is a 2019 O'Neill Finalist. As a director, Dana has worked with many theaters including Moving Arts, Sacred Fools, Offending Shadows,
Actors Theater NoHo, Victory, and The Lyric.  As an actor, she trained in New York at AADA and HB Studios, and has appeared in dozens of productions all over the world, most notably at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Actors Studio, Theater for New City, Cast Theater, Actors Gang, and Moving Arts.


ELIZABETH SWAIN (Director) is an actor, director and teacher, and a member of LA’s Antaeus Company. Classical directing includes, Two Noble Kinsmen for The Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival, An Evening of Betrayal (a pairing of Pinter’s play with Othello), The Winter’s Tale, 3 Hamlets, 2 Macbeths, Marston’s The Malcontent, Aphra Behn’s The
Rover and The Lucky Chance, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She has also directed Fugard’s Master Harold and the Boys for the Cape May Playhouse, and new plays by Tony Abatemarco and Wendy Kesselman.  She has directed many staged readings for The Classical Theatre Lab and for Antaeus.  As an actor she has worked on Broadway, Off
Broadway and in regional theaters across the country, including The LA Women’s Shakespeare Company, She has taught at Barnard College and is Professor Emerita from Marymount Manhattan College.  

The cast of EARLY BIRDS will feature: Wendy Elizabeth Abraham, Jean Gilpin and Jayne Taini.

EARLY BIRDS has assembled the following design and production team Scenic Design is by John Iacovelli.  Lighting Design is by Martha Carter. Sound Design is by Jeff Gardner. Costume Design is by Carolyn Mazuca. The Production Stage Manager is Josie Austin. The Producer is Cece Tio.
