On the second night of the festival, Musical America’s 2010 Musician of the Year Riccardo Muti leads the world-renowned Chicago Symphony in Lalo Schifrin’s Baroque-Jazz crossover Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra written specifically for soloist Gene Pokorny and works by Verdi and Brahms.

Celebrating its 130th season, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is consistently hailed as one of the world’s leading orchestras. Conductor Riccardo Muti’s commitment to artistic excellence continues to bring the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to ever higher levels of achievement and renown.

One of the preeminent conductors of our day, Muti first came to international attention in 1967, when he was unanimously awarded first place at the Guido Cantelli Competition for conductors in Milan. Since then, he has built at 40 year career serving as music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra as well as music director of the Teatro alla Scala.
