Anthony McGill & Anna Polonsky

Anthony McGill & Anna PolonskyThe clarinetist Anthony McGill and pianist Anna Polonsky perform a recital program featuring works by Brahms and James Lee III for the Denver Friends of Chamber Music

Denver Friends of Chamber Music presents clarinetist Anthony McGill and pianist Anna Polonsky in a free streaming concert. The two artists will perform Brahms’s Clarinet Sonata No. 2 and James Lee III’s 2015 work, Ad Ahna. The performance will be available at the Friends of Chamber Music Denver YouTube channel for one month following the performance. The recital was recorded in the beautiful Leshowitz Recital Hall at Montclair State University. The performance will conclude with a conversation on music and social justice issues between Anthony and Roger Holland, DU faculty member and Director of the Spirituals Project. The event will be streamed by OurConcerts.Live.

Hailed for his “trademark brilliance, penetrating sound and rich character” (The New York Times), McGill enjoys an international solo and chamber music career and is principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, that orchestra’s first Black principal player. In the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, Anthony launched a powerful musical protest video urging people to #TakeTwoKnees in demonstration against the death of George Floyd and historic racial injustice. His video went viral, and hundreds of artists and citizens amplified and responded to the protest with their own videos using the hashtag #TakeTwoKnees.

??Polonsky is a revered soloist and chamber musician, who has appeared with the Moscow Virtuosi, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and many others, and has collaborated with the Guarneri, Orion, Daedalus, and Shanghai Quartets, and with such musicians as Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax.
